Thanksgiving 2010

What a wonderful time. Banana bread, homemade Chex mix, cheese and crackers, bourbon slush, cheesy bread, squash, mashed potatoes and potato pancakes, green beans, turkey (for the omni-vees), apple pie, homemade biscuits and jam. And it was great to see the family too. We're in withdrawal mode now and counting down the days until we get to see everybody for the Christmas holiday.

Here is this year's Turkey Dance. Next year I'll try to remember to get it on video.

Hi!

Posted by Picasa

Hope you had a Happy Halloween. Vera did well for her first, and Deacon definitely "got it" this time out. I'm happy that we were able to pull it all off with costumes for the entire family. We're now counting down the days to Thanksgiving!

Just in case you need a refresher for our costumes:

October

We traveled to Ohio last weekend to say goodbye to Grandma Lombardi and to celebrate her life. The weekend was inspired by and filled with the love that she showed everyone she met in her life. We love you Grandma!

The trip to Ohio also gave a chance for all the cousins to get together. There was plenty of running and jumping, screaming and laughing, crawling and gurgling. The kids had fun and the parents were worn out.

Other than that, we've been staying busy, working on some home improvements, and enjoying Deacon and Vera. Deacon is in the midst of some serious potty training. Vera has become quite proficient at her army crawling and her first two teeth have come in (bottom front)! Each day they have something new and wonderful to show us.

What month is it?

What's going on, everybody!? Yes, it has been awhile since we last checked in, but fortunately we've been documenting as we went. Vera's hitting the early stages of mobility and being cute. Deacon is growing up and being cute. Jill is running and running and running. Matt is finally getting to the blog, and Grandma Weezie came to visit! Thank you for helping all of us have a wonderful weekend, Grandma Weezie!

I'm glad to know that you've been waiting (some even did it patiently!), and I promise these will be worth it.

Vera Time

At five months, our little girl is getting big! :(

Teeth are coming in (front, top and bottom), with one on the bottom already breaking through. We've started with the "solids" - bananas! And she's becoming a real mover and shaker.

Here's a little video of her in action (the quality is just so-so, so I'll have to see what I can do about that), and there will be more to come!

UPDATE! See Vera eat! (Turn your head 90 degrees to the left to view.)

The Big Trip

UPDATE: Here's a link to Uncle John's slide show!

We have returned from the summer portion of our biannual trip to visit both of our families, and I happy to say that it was a smashing success!

Everyone that could come came to Vera-xplosion in NY. Shout-outs to Unkie Josh, Aunt Tracey and Uncle John, The Northrups for making to the "xplosion". Thank you to everyone who was there or even just there in spirit! While at Amma and Boppa's house, Deacon enjoyed the pool, a trip the National Toy Hall of Fame, and lots-o-love from his Grandparents. Thanks to Mom and Dad H.(Amma and Boppa) for throwing a heck of a party and for being such wonderful hosts during our stay. We wish we were there!

In Ohio, Deacon and Vera enjoyed some quality time with all of their cousins and in Aunt Di's pool. Weezie and Papa we're gracious hosts as their home was over-run with all the little ones. (Just wait till the holidays!) As you'll see, it was also the start of the Hall of Fame week in Canton (where the football hall of fame is located if you didn't know). Hot air balloons are a big part of the opening weekend (couldn't tell you why), and I don't think a day went by that we didn't see one in the sky. One flew right over the house - it was quite low too! Needless to say, Deacon loved it all.

Now that our parents' houses are quiet and we're back in ours, I think we all wish that we lived a little closer (actually, I know this as fact since it was frequently the subject of conversation). While that's certainly something to think about in the future, we're happy to be in our home again. It will be too long before we get to see you all again, but we'll be counting the days until then.

In the meantime, let's enjoy some pictures! BTW, if you have any pictures from our trip (Uncle John, I'm looking in your direction) feel free to email them to us (or send us the link in picasa, flickr, etc.) and we'll get them up here.

When the Cousins Come to Town

Summertime is travel time. This past weekend The Huff family stopped in for a visit on their way to Myrtle Beach. We had a nice visit with Lori and Trent, while the kids took the place over.

Up next: Vera-plosion (or Vera-explosion). We will *N O T* be exploding our sweet child. We WILL be enjoying a gathering of family and friends up at Amma and Papa H.'s house this Saturday (7/24; 24, 7. Aww yeah!). We're expecting great things (weather be damned), and a festive, food-filled, welcoming party for our little girl like only Amma H can throw. If you're in the neighborhood you are invited and should make plans to attend.

This slide show is short and sweet, just like our visit with the Huffs. Luckily we'll be seeing them again at Weezie and Papa's place on our way back. Until then:

Fourth of July in Dayton

Hi folks! We had a wonderful visit with Jocelyn, Damion and Liam in Dayton last weekend. Deacon and Liam had a blast together and Vera left a lasting impression on Joc and Damion. :) We also got to spend a little bit of time with Aunt NeNe and Leah. Thanks for coming to see us in Dayton!

In addition to celebrating the fourth, we also got to toast Jocelyn on her birthday and celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary. Dayton definitely brings back the memories of how it all began. Happy Anniversary Matty!

Overall the kids were pretty good in the car which gives us hope for our trip north at the end of the month. Enjoy the pics!

We love you!

Much to do in May

What a busy month!! Time really does fly when you are having fun. Baby Vera (aka Baby Clair) will be twelve weeks old on Thursday!! Both of the kids will be starting school on Monday...and I will be going back to work. This month has been full of play dates, birthday parties, and trips to the beach, the aquarium, Ohio, and the zoo. Wow, I am tired just typing that.

We had a play date with Mary Adelyn, John, Evan and Ansel at the Health Adventure. We celebrated Ansel's birthday at the cool cool park. And Deacon loved the bounce house at the kiddie festival (broken foot and all).

Here are some more pictures from the beach and our trip to the Aquarium. Our beach house was a little more shabby then chic...but it was on the beach and you can't beat that. The Charleston Aquarium was great too.

Deacon, Vera and I made a quick trip to Ohio last weekend to meet our newest cousin, Gabrielle, and visit with the rest of our family. Mike, Melissa, Isabel, and Gabrielle are doing great and were very surprised to see us!! We also went to the Columbus Zoo with Rachel and Tyler-buddy and spent the night at Aunt NeNe's. Luckily for me, the kids did great in the car. Hopefully they will do just as well for our trip north in July.

Beachin' trip

It's been a full month. My semester ended, another has begun, we snuck in a vacation, Vera's getting big quick, and there is a new addition to the family!

We recently went to Edisto Beach, SC. We didn't know anything about it until it was recommended by our friend Susan. It was just about perfect. We were staying right on the beach, it was completely quiet, the water was great. I just wish we had more than two full days there.

I've been home alone this weekend while Jill and the kids went up to see Mike and Melissa's new baby girl, Gabrielle. Congratulations you guys! Deacon and Vera also got to see the rest of their cousins and go to the zoo in Columbus. More pictures will be coming soon, but for now here's the beach.

Heimburg family invasion (week 8)

The whole family came to Asheville this past week. Vera and Deak were the stars of the show, and mom and dad both got a little break form their day-to-day parental responsibilities. Much fun was had by all.

The trips to the "cool-cool" park received their own slide show:

Week Six and Seven...Already!

Remember when we used to blog each week of Deacon's young life. Well, Vera's days have been just as memorable even if they are not chronicled in such detail. I can't believe that she will be seven weeks old this week! In the last week she seems to have grown a lot. She has longer periods of alertness and can already hold up her head. We are starting to see little smiles on her adorable face (but they are still hard to catch a picture of).

Amma and Pappa are visiting this week and Josh and Amy will be joining us soon...so stay tuned!

Are you feelin' it?

Everything is happening. The weather is changing, kids are growing, and grandparents are dropping in like we're in the neighborhood (and we wish we were)!

This past week we had the grandparents Lombardi, Papa and Weezie, in for a visit. They brought lots of presents for Deacon and Vera from our family in Ohio. Thank you to everyone for thinking of us!

Vera is now at five weeks. She's just doin' her baby thing, and that's what makes us happy (As much as perpetually poopy diapers and intermittent slumber interruptions can make one happy), and you'll see that she's quickly learned to keep up with her big brother when it comes to hamming it up in front of the camera.

To top it all off, we've just wrapped up a jam-packed weekend. Saturday was a "Proper American BBQ" hosted by the always cordial Alday family, and Sunday we made it out to the old ball game with the Asheville Tourists, our neighborhood Single A ball team. Unfortunately we left our camera at home when we went to the game, but there's plenty of the rest.

Up next: the Heimburg family!

A visit from Amma and Deak's #2

Amma has come and gone. We couldn't have made it through this week without her! We miss her already and can't wait till she and Boppa return in a couple weeks.

Fortunately, round two with Weezie and Papa is just around the corner. We hope to see Grandma and Grandpa Lombardi before the end of this week!

Amy Alday
has gotten us the complete Vera Clair photo shoot. You can view them here.

Deacon's second birthday party was a success and we've continued the celebration throughout the weekend. The best part is that not only did our big boy turn two this weekend, he also made number two in the potty. Mommy and daddy are very excited.

Happy Birthday Deacon!

Our baby boy is turning two today! What a wonderful two years it has been.

Here are the first shots from Vera's first photo shoot. Deacon decided to strike a pose too.

The fun don't stop

It's been a great week, but I'm back to work tomorrow. I'll do my best to keep the blog updates coming. As you'll see, we picked up a little gift for Deacon today for being such great big brother (and we hope to distract from the fact that daddy's at work).

Before and after

We're settling in nicely here. Everyone continues to do great (even if mom and dad are a wee bit sleep deprived). Deak is turning into a very loving and gentle big bro. How could we expect anything less?

These are some pictures from before and after lil' Miss Vera's arrival.

Vera Clair is her name

You may have read it here first, folks! If not, you should get a facebook account. That's right, Vera Clair Heimburg is the official name of our beautiful daughter.

It's a brand new day

Everyone here is doing great! Thank you everyone for all of your support and well wishes, we can feel the love!

Still no name yet, although we've been trying out a few over the last day or so to get a feel for what might stick.

We found out that a couple of our friends are with us here in the hospital doin' this baby thang too. Congrats to Nikki & Marc, and Good luck to Brian and Cristin!

For your viewing pleasure, here are some more pictures of our newest arrival.

She's here!

Our little darling arrived this morning at 6:19, and she weighed 7 lbs. 1 oz. and was 19 inches long. Everybody is doing great. I apologize for the lack of updates on our status, but it was an all-nighter and we were kind of busy.

Here are the first of many pictures of our beautiful daughter:

You may have picked up that we haven't settled on a name yet. Don't worry, we'll have one any day now (the clock is ticking)!

Winter Sunshine - 36 weeks

It could literally be any day now. As we await our little lady, Deacon keeps on prepping for his leading roles as a big brother. Pee Pees on the potty daily, up and down stairs, chattin' on the phone... so much to enjoy. Stay warm!

Chickens, Goats, and Toddlers...OH MY!

Deacon and his friend Evan took their Mommies on a playdate to the Biltmore Estate Farm. We saw chickens, goats, horses, bunnies, tractors, and had lots of fun catching up. Deacon is already looking forward to his next playdate with Evan!!

Fun at the Hands-On Museum

Deacon and I had a playdate with our friends Ansel and Anna at the Hands-On Museum today. The museum was tons of fun and Deacon loved getting to spend time with Ansel again! Enjoy the show!

Week 33 - New Year, new changes

We're busy prepping the house for our little girl. Deacon will be getting a new bedroom along with his new sister, but he'll be happy to share it with you when you come to visit.

Jill is feeling good and she's also feeling lots of kicks, punches, and rolls. Jill's enjoying the time she's getting to spend with Deacon. This week they've got plans to go to the Hands-On Museum for a play-date and there's just so much more.

We've heard some requests for video of Deak singing; we'll be working on that.

Holidays 2009 - Part II

It was a long journey and well worth all the travel. We could really get used to having all that family around. We did receive one more gift upon our arrival home: Deacon's using the potty! Thanks for your leadership and inspiration, cousin Rachel!

Happy New Year to all!
