Stepping it up a notch...

As we approach the third and final trimester, my thoughts have turned to the continued documentation of my kid's life. It's likely he'll literally hit the ground running with his own myspace page. So I've decided to try a new approach to presenting pictures here. Thanks Google.

We are both looking forward to catching up with everyone over the holidays! If we don't bump into you, we miss you!

The Metamorphosis

It's about that time - The age of the nursery has arrived. The den is dead - long live the den!

My last den sit

This is probably going to take some time. As I mentioned recently we hope to convert this room to one that is suitable for a child (i.e. no cat or cat box, good-bye Chuck Barris signed Confessions of a Dangerous Mind Poster, fade into the sunset starving artist artwork). As mentioned before our "plan" for the nursery could involve the following:

Monkeys...........................................Pirates

And maybe some Monkey-Pirates

A jungle theme is a good possibility too. My plan is to go original (the above images are borrowed) - I'll create a few stencils and we'll see how it works out. Suggestions are welcome.

We've ordered a crib. It's a good thing we got on that - delivery could take up to 12 weeks! That won't be a moment too soon - only 12 weeks.... delivery... 16 weeks... delivery!

I know you're wondering, "What's that crib look like? Is it made out of bamboo and hemp?" So here - and no, it isn't made from that. It's one of those lifetime deals - hope he likes it.

We need to give a big "thank you," to Grandma and Grandpa Heimburg for providing our first child as well as our future child, with a beautiful bed.

Belly Pics - Amy Winehouse Edition

Our friend Adam had a surprise birthday party Saturday night. He's a Brit, so to give him a taste of home we all dressed as our favorite British person. Jill was Amy Winehouse, my getup was more literal. I had to show the closeup of my attempt at her tattoos

I've had twins!!

While they're not identical twins, I do like to think of them as fraternal twins (even if they were technically conceived a week apart). One is pale, the other is stout.

As for real baby news, we think he enjoyed his first Thanksgiving feast and we're just about to get started on the nursery. We're considering either a jungle theme, or perhaps just monkeys, or maybe pirates, or pirates and monkeys. I'll get up some pictures of the stencils once they're worked out.

Hope you're all doing well!

More coming soon

Sorry we haven't posted any updates recently. We spent last weekend in OH - IO!! Where I (Matt) was able to attend my first Buckeyes game (thanks to my brother in-law Trent) and Jill was able able to get some registering done at Babies-r-Us.

This week I've been a little under the weather, but Jill is feeling fine (thanks to a flu shot her doctors had her get). I promise a new belly picture will be arriving shortly!

How to Tell if Your Child is the Dalai Lama

Check for these signs:

Large Ears

Long Eyes

Eyebrows curving up at the ends

Streaks on the legs

A mark the shape of a conch shell on the palm of one hand

The ability to distinquish articles belonging to the previous Dalai Lama, such as: spectacles, a silver pencil, an eating bowl, a black rosary, a yellow rosary, a walking stick, and a small ivory hand drum used in religious devotions

Congrats Mikey and Melissa!

Our baby brother is going to be a daddy!!
Mikey and Melissa just told us the wonderful news that they are expecting too! Melissa is about 5 or 6 weeks pregnant which means that our kids will be about 3 months apart in age. If you know Melissa, then you'll know that she is excited!!

You can follow their exciting journey on their blog: http://www.themandmfamily.blogspot.com/

Week 17 picture

It still might be difficult to tell from the pictures, but Jilly's belly is definitely getting rounder!

Now I'm off to make my own baby - 5 gallons of oatmeal stout! I've already decided that it's going to be a girl and she's due in about two and a half weeks. Weighing in at 8-9% ABV, she'll be a trouble maker for sure.

This is you're life... (at 17 weeks)

Week Seventeen
  • By week 17, your baby weighs about 4.97 ounces (140gm) and is 5.12 inches (13cm) long.
  • He or she has a much more normal "human" appearance now. She holds her head more erect and her body and limbs are longer in proportion to her head.
  • Pads are forming on his tiny fingertips and toes. Soon those individual swirls and whorls will be apparent.
  • Her eyes are looking forward now, but they are still firmly closed.
  • Meconium (composed of products of cell loss, digestive secretion and swallowed amniotic fluid), is accumulating in the bowel. This black gooey substance will become your baby's first poop!
  • The umbilical cord is growing thicker and stronger and continues to rush blood and nutrients to your growing baby.
  • If your child is male the prostate begins to develop.
  • Her skeleton is tranforming from cartilage to bone. The bones remain flexible to make the journey through the birth canal easier.

What'll it be?

First, thank you to all for your congrats and sharing in our excitement.

After all the gushing is over, the most FAQ (frequently asked question) is, "What is it?" or "Will you find out?"

Your guess is as good as ours right now, but we will most likely be finding out the answer to this question in November.

Until that time share what you think. Boy or girl?

If you're right you'll get the satisfaction of a guess well made and an artificial sense of omniscience, if your wrong you'll the satisfaction of a surprise and continue to live in awe of how little we can actually know about the world around us. Vote now!

The First Look

Here are a couple of pictures from the ultrasound. We were able to get a video too - it's on VHS, so I'll see what I can do to get it transferred into digital. It'll be worth it - that wee one was squirming all over! Check out the birds eye view - thumbs up!

You heard it here again

Hello family and friends!

We're due! The official date is march 27th.

Perhaps while you're waiting for this newest story to develop you'd like to take a look back.
