Happy Birthday!

Within this past month our household will have celebrated three birthdays. Vera is 2, Deacon is 4, and I'm older. My birthday party consisted of Asheville's finest pizza and beer. For Vera it was a fun family outing to the Health Adventure and for Deacon it was "Chucker Cheese" (Chuck E. Cheese). The Health Adventure was great. As far as I can tell the kids didn't learn a thing, but we all had great time. Vera is so nurturing. She loves her babies and playing house. Aside from being absolute-ly adorable she's also very articulate, expressive, and persistent.

Chuck E. Cheese. Honestly, some of my fondest memories from my youth were from this pizza-token-ticket slinging establishment. While it's not the same, there was still skee ball, air hockey, and a video game or two. More rides, and a climbing structure rather than a ball pit or cavernous cheese wall, CEC nevertheless delivered on the fun. Everyone (except for one extremely terrified child) thoroughly enjoyed themselves. It was easy, entertaining, and they had "beer" available in "large" size. What more can you ask for?

Blog Hibernation Complete

Yawn... Our winter's nap is over and it's time to start seeing what we've missed. Let's begin with a little of the Holiday Spirit of Christmas Past. We did our great northerly travels for what could be the last time for a long time. If you don't know, Amma and Boppa H. are moving from Farmington, NY to Hendersonville, NC. They'll be a scant 20-25 minutes down the road. So yes, I'm nostalgic about my "home" moving, but I can say we're all thrilled about the Heimburg homestead 2.0 heading our way. Anywho, let me summarize the whole thing with my own brand of armchair poetry. With bourbon slush and mistletoe, and not a drop of ice or snow, a distant traveling we did go. We traveled north and then north some more. All along with enough beer for a tasting or three, our final stop before home was a remote cabin for New Year's Eve. While we lit the yule log and decked the halls, our family and loved ones surrounded us all. That was the best gift we could hope to receive, and if you like the pictures here, a comment you can leave.

Bonus: 7 pictures from January. Woot!

Spring has sprung and we're off and moving! Literally. We're moving to West Asheville! More on that and more pictures of our big kids next week.

Thanksgiving

I don't know about you, but I missing eating and drink and carrying on at will. It was all to quick of a visit with Josh and Amma and Boppa H., but it whet our appetite for our upcoming annual northward trek to see (almost) all the family! Now if we can just survive the next 3 weeks.

Perhaps it's not surprising, but there ended up being an inverse relationship between the amount of fun we had and the number of pictures took. Enjoy!

The Catch Up

Halloween!!! Seems like only yesterday! Beware of Diablo Rojo!

And some other around-the-house-fun stuff

Rocky Mountain High

Back in May we visited Aunt Amy in Denver. It was pretty awesome, even if it was rainy and cool the entire time. First up, some pics from Odell's Brewery in Fort Collins, Jilly and Deak rockin' out, and fun around the house.

Up next, the zoo! Lots of animals in this one so that the kids will enjoy looking at our blog too. There are a few choice people picks interspersed as well. Enjoy!

Thanks for everything!

We were fortunate enough to have Amma and Boppa here for the first week with Deacon and the cast. Unfortunately, I don't have one picture from that time. I guess it's probably understandable. Amma was able to, and kind enough to, stick around for another week, and she just left tonight. We're going to miss her. Thank you both for everything! Thanks to everyone else who has been showering Deacon with gifts in the mail.

And it's Vera's birthday! Happy Birthday big girl!!

Happy Birthday, Baby Girl!

What a year! We're usually too busy for this sort of thing, but let's take a look back. Here are Vera's first 12 months. Happy Birthday, Vera Clair!

The Visit

It's long overdue. Way back at the end of January longtime friends-of-the-family Stephanie and Alex swung in for a nice little visit. These were simpler times, before the uprisings in the Mideast and Midwest and before the cast (which is now what we'll mean whenever we use B.C.. We can't wait for A.C.!). We miss you both!

The Final Installment

We've been getting some snow and more is supposed to be on the way. It reminds me of the time we spent up north. I hope these pictures help to extend the holiday cheer into your new year!

Now for some more fun! This is Deacon first real trip on a sled.

And here's the kids in the snow in OH:

I almost forgot!

Here is the second installment of out holiday fun! This batch come from our stay in with the Lombardi family in Canton, OH. What a blast! Six, count 'em, SIX young cousins! Needless to say, the kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves and in the process exhausted all us old farts.

I'll be putting up the final installment, from the Heimburg home, shortly.

Thanksgiving 2010

What a wonderful time. Banana bread, homemade Chex mix, cheese and crackers, bourbon slush, cheesy bread, squash, mashed potatoes and potato pancakes, green beans, turkey (for the omni-vees), apple pie, homemade biscuits and jam. And it was great to see the family too. We're in withdrawal mode now and counting down the days until we get to see everybody for the Christmas holiday.

Here is this year's Turkey Dance. Next year I'll try to remember to get it on video.
